Barbotine

Barbotine is an experimental horror, the plot of which tells the story of the creepy seven-day transformation of the protagonist. After an unfortunate incident at a party, the hero falls ill and his body begins to undergo grotesque changes. In parallel with the physical mutations, the surrounding reality is also distorted: the familiar apartment becomes an increasingly strange and hostile place every day. Surreal visual images and a disturbing atmosphere plunge you into a state of increasing anxiety, making you feel alienated from your own body and the world around you. This short but intense experience explores themes of loneliness and obsession.

The project deeply explores the psychological aspects of anxiety and social isolation using a unique artistic style. The visuals, which harken back to the PSX-era aesthetic, only add to the depressing feel of the experience. In Barbotine, the player must face the consequences of growing self-hostility, which is reflected in distorted space and frightening animations. The atmospheric soundtrack and thoughtful level design work together to create a cohesive and memorable experience, reminiscent of Suda51’s work and classic Silent Hill titles, but with its own unique twist.

The gameplay is not limited to just exploring the deformed home. The protagonist is not a defenseless victim of circumstances and is able to fight back against the terrible creatures that come his way. In a tense combat system built on close combat, the main tool becomes an ordinary shovel. With its help, you will not only have to fight off bizarre enemies, but also satisfy the uncontrollable desire to dig a deep hole located in the basement of the house. Once you study the rhythm of the battles, you can discover a peculiar mechanical elegance in them that complements the overall picture of this unusual project.
