Game Description

The creators of BlazeRush were clearly inspired by Blizzard’s ride-alongs that came out on consoles back in the 90s. Since that project ultimately did not reach the PC, its spiritual successor appeared a couple of decades later. The game also successfully played with the idea of another racing hit of those years - “Micromachines” - in the form of a single screen for all participants in the race. The arcade action game features co-op for four people. You can race across the network not only with live users, but also with bots. A campaign is available for the single. Tournaments take place on 3 planets with different scenery.

Unlike Rock and Roll Racing, there is no currency here, and therefore, you cannot buy cars and upgrade them along with weapons. Weapons (rocket, saw, sonic cannon, machine gun) and auxiliary items (slime and three types of nitro) simply lie on the levels. Health bars are also missing, so you can only slow down your opponents by pushing them off the track or forcing them to turn around and crash into barriers.

In BlashRush there are not only regular round trips in which you have to arrive at the finish line first, and standard time trials. There are also survival races here, where everyone runs away from a huge skating rink. In addition, there is a mode called “King of the Hill”. The winner is the one who can maintain the lead for 30-50 seconds.

The camera can become awkward for the racer who is ahead as it tries to keep everyone in perspective. In addition, those who are far behind are pushed forward by the game itself, making it impossible to break away from the competitor by half a lap. However, such mechanics add drive to the competition and maintain tension until the very end.
