Bloodgrounds

Bloodgrounds is a tactical roguelike where every battle in the arena could be the gladiator’s last. Turn-based battles take place on a grid map, requiring the commander to wisely spend action points on movement and attacks. Using class abilities, setting traps, and using consumable items such as potions or scrolls becomes the key to survival. After defeating an enemy fighter, you have to make a choice: show mercy by adding a new warrior to your squad, or execute him for the amusement of a bloodthirsty public, receiving more generous rewards in return.

All this cruelty serves one purpose - revenge. The main character, a wealthy patron, is obsessed with the desire to punish Emperor Dammas II, who is responsible for the death of his father and the loss of his youth. Each victory on the sands of the arena brings him closer to the capital, where the tyrant has settled down. In the Bloodgrounds project, progress through the plot is inextricably linked to the expansion of the team of gladiators with physical, magical or shooting talents. The path to justice lies through a series of brutal tournaments, where the defeat of one fighter means his irrevocable loss.

Outside of the arena, gameplay centers on managing the coastal town of Marevento. Between battles, you need to invest the gold you earn in the construction and improvement of buildings. The infirmary allows you to restore the wounded, the market allows you to trade equipment, and special buildings provide access to new mechanics. You can make deals with crime lords to sabotage your opponents or make offerings to the gods, hoping for their divine intervention in future battles. The preparation of the squad, including training and equipment, is a key element on the path to overthrowing the emperor.
