Call of Duty 2 provides the opportunity to compete online online, fighting with a friend or random players from around the world. There are stationary machine guns such as the Browning M1919 and MG-42, as well as various anti-aircraft guns, artillery pieces, etc. Call of Duty 2 campaigns: Soviet: Winter War, Not a Step Back and Stalingrad Fortress; British: Battle of El Alamein, Tank detachments, Defeat of Rommel and Battle of Caen; American: D-Day, Hill 400 and Crossing the Rhine.

All three campaigns take place between 1941 and 1945. Campaigns are divided into episodes, and these in turn are divided into missions.
