Game Description

Death By Scrolling sends you on a continuous vertical sprint through the bureaucratic expanses of Purgatory. The gamer chooses a hero to fight with the creatures of the underworld and collect gold against the backdrop of an inexorably moving upward screen. The main task is to collect 10,000 coins necessary for the Ferryman to cross to the afterlife. Fiery doom awaits at the bottom edge, and the Grim Reaper pursues relentlessly, remaining out of frame. This mechanic ensures that time is never on the player’s side.

Each hero in Death By Scrolling has a unique set of skills and perks, giving you access to a variety of survival strategies. During the climb, the collected gems and coins serve as currency for transactions with merchants who appear mid-run. These merchants offer power-ups and special improvements to make your journey easier. The Reaper, who is always nearby, cannot be defeated in open battle; this entity must be temporarily stunned or actively avoided in order to continue moving upward towards the final goal.

Once you reach the top of a level, you can gain access to bonus runs and side quests that promise additional rewards. The path to the top is blocked by hellish pests and demonic bosses, making it difficult to constantly move towards the goal. To record your gaming progress in Purgatory, there is a leaderboard that documents the achievements of all trapped souls and ranks them for comparison. The final measure of success is paying the required tribute and crossing the river before the character is overtaken by the pursuer.
