Game Description

GHOST TRAVELER: Adventures in Edo is a mystical visual novel that follows the investigation into a series of brutal murders set against the backdrop of Japan’s Yoshiwara entertainment district. The main character is a 17-year-old boy named Kotaro, whose soul, after a supernatural incident in modern Shibuya, is transported to the 19th century. Having learned from a certain deity about the death of his physical body, the protagonist finds himself locked in the past with no clear path to returning home or moving on to the afterlife. Forced to adapt to new realities, he takes on the role of detective when faced with the mysterious murder of a local courtesan known as an Oiran.

The gameplay combines exploration of atmospheric locations and careful collection of evidence with a unique time loop mechanic. In GHOST TRAVELER: Adventures in Edo, it is impossible to solve the central mystery in one playthrough, which pushes for a re-analysis of events. As a ghost, Kotaro is able to go back in time and even inhabit other people in order to look at what happened from a different perspective. The script is riddled with many hidden details and foreshadowing, leading to a completely unexpected dramatic outcome. Additionally, the title contains a mode that explains in detail the life, customs and terminology of the Edo era.
