Game Description
Morsels is a roguelite action game with elements of creature collecting, offering dynamic battles from a top-down view. The basis of the gameplay is the use of mystical cards that allow you to take on the appearance of creatures of the same name. Players have access to a deck of 3 cards, which they can switch between at any time to tactically adapt to the situation. Each creature has a unique set of attacks, dodges, and special abilities, adding variety to the combat system.
The main character is a hungry mouse who descends into the labyrinths of the sewers in search of food. His goal is to repel the evil cats who have seized power and become the Card Barons. Making his way through the winding floors of the world of Morsels, the protagonist collects cheese and finds new cards to strengthen his arsenal. The adventure begins by choosing one of two starting creatures, such as the sunflower-like Windsel or Gomsel.
The structure of each race is unique, which forces you to constantly look for new approaches to passing. An unusual mechanic results in the death of a creature after its second level up in one session, encouraging active searching and card rotation. As you explore, you can discover secret passages leading to mini-games with valuable rewards. This keeps meta-progression to a minimum, focusing on the skills within the current attempt.
The visual style of the project is distinguished by deliberate negligence and pixel graphics with the effect of an old CRT monitor. The gloomy and dirty atmosphere of the sewer is emphasized by a bright but specific color palette. The atmosphere is complemented by memorable musical accompaniment from composer Sam Webster. All elements together create a holistic and memorable image of a world full of dangers and hidden opportunities.
