POOLS offers an unconventional gaming experience. Forget about blowing up aliens or conquering kingdoms. This is where exploration and atmosphere come to the fore. Imagine yourself in a huge, eerily empty water center. Sunlight barely breaks through the humid air, casting long shadows on the deserted tiled floor. The only sounds are your steps, reflected from the damp walls, and rare drops of water. There are no monsters or puzzles to overcome, just unsettling silence and frightening architecture. The game world itself is a character experience that constantly changes as you delve deeper into it. One moment you can find yourself in a brightly lit billiard room, and the next you can find yourself in a dimly lit maze of corridors. Each area holds its own unique secret, challenging you to move forward.
No menus, no dialogue, no background music. Instead, the developers rely on environmental sounds to create a truly immersive experience. The echo of your steps changes depending on the room, and walking on water seems deliberately slow and cumbersome. Although there is no traditional narrative, the feeling of unease increases as the exploration progresses. Vast empty spaces evoke a primal fear of getting lost, and the lack of human interaction only increases isolation. The project is a journey consisting of six chapters, each of which takes from 10 to 30 minutes.
