Game Description
Roots of Harmony is a text-based 4X strategy game in which users guide a newly founded colony through various stages of survival and development. Set on a procedurally generated island, the project introduces gamers to a variety of unique environments, including tundra, forests, deserts and swamps, each offering their own challenges and content. The focus is on exploration, resource management, and making important ideological decisions that determine the direction of the base’s development.
Users in Roots of Harmony must manage doctrines, which serve as guidelines for the colony, and students, which are essentially units representing different roles in the settlement. Students are able to take on various forms, serving as workers, researchers, or soldiers, among other things. As they progress through the title, they will be able to acquire special traits and abilities, which adds an additional level of customization that affects gameplay.
Doctrines discovered throughout history determine how students develop, influencing identity and settlement strategy. The title combines turn-based strategy with material management mechanics, where decisions made early on must have long-term consequences. Since the project is focused on replayability, the island’s layout and available resources change with each new playthrough, forcing gamers to be on their guard. While the lack of traditional graphics may seem unusual, the text-based interface allows for a deep and immersive experience.
