Game Description

Scourge of the Village takes gamers on an eerie journey through a mountain village shrouded in mystery and supernatural elements. Set against the backdrop of Chinese folk horror, the plot revolves around an investigation that goes wrong. Chen Xi, a trainee reporter, begins investigating a wastewater discharge incident at a factory, but soon finds himself in a much more alarming situation. As she navigates the twisted paths of reality and dreams, the boundaries between the two worlds blur, and what was once an investigation into environmental crimes turns into a struggle to understand the tragic history of the village. At its core, Scourge of the Village is a decoding game. This means that users are not just passive observers - they are actively solving puzzles that reveal parts of the plot.

The puzzles are deeply intertwined with traditional Chinese folklore, particularly concepts such as the Five Elements and Bagua, adding cultural depth to the gameplay. Gamers interact with the text in unique ways by dragging, combining, and rotating various entries to cause changes in the environment, thereby moving the story forward. Each riddle is part of a larger mystery, and as it is solved, the user learns more and more about the forgotten past of the village. The story itself is far from simple.
