Game Description

SGS Battle of the Bulge simulates WW2 fighting in the Ardennes that began on December 16, 1944. The project depicts the Nazi offensive known as Watch on the Rhine, later renamed Autumn Mist, which targeted Allied supply routes through Antwerp. These events led to the conflict known as the Battle of the Bulge, which lasted until January 1945, including retaliatory operations by the anti-Hitler coalition.

The simulation covers the period of both the German attack and the subsequent enemy reaction. Commanding German troops in SGS Battle of the Bulge, the gamer controls the 5th and 6th Tank Armies, as well as the 7th Army, which amounts to over twenty divisions assembled from the available resources of Germany. The objective is to carry out a surprise attack through American defensive formations to quickly capture positions along the Meuse River.

Success requires eliminating opposing units before allotted supplies are exhausted, which is a race against time. Achieving these objectives would disrupt Allied operational plans in the West, although this strategy does not include Hitler’s plan to capture Antwerp, concentrating only on the units historically involved in the Battle of the Bulge. The Allied command’s representation poses a different challenge, starting with the eighth corps' four divisions along a 120-kilometer front. Reinforcements, including elements of Patton’s 3rd Army and the British 30th Corps under Montgomery, arrive over time.
