Game Description
SGS Operation Hawaii features a scenario covering the events following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. This game explores the possible consequences of the situation if a Japanese air raid were followed by a ground invasion of Oahu. The focus is on a theoretical operation involving specially trained Marines and Army units secretly brought in with the main strike force.
The idea differs from the real story, where a similar landing, although discussed by the Imperial Japanese Navy, was rejected due to supply difficulties. In SGS Operation Hawaii, gamers will take command of an alternate history setting. The Japanese objective is to land troops and inflict maximum damage to military installations in a short time, approximately 3-4 days, reflecting the limited support capabilities of the invading force.
Leading the forces, the player must choose the best place for the landing and strive to destroy ground objects in order to enhance the effect of the air attack. The American commander, in turn, will have to organize protection against a surprise ground assault. The gameplay involves making strategic decisions before starting an operation, which affects the initial conditions. Each side chooses options worth victory points, with the opponent’s choice unknown, creating different situations each time the game is played. The Japanese commander faces an important choice of landing site: proximity to Pearl Harbor carries the risk of coming under fire from coastal batteries, the northern coast is far from defenses but also from targets, and the eastern coast offers a different balance of risk and benefit.
