In SLACKJAW, the player awakens in the basement of a serial killer, becoming his next intended victim. Survival depends on exploring confined spaces and using the resources you find to solve interconnected puzzles. Each action must be performed with caution, since the maniac is at the top and reacts to sounds. The main task is to organize an escape from captivity before being discovered, navigating in a world recreated from an eyewitness account of real events.
SLACKJAW is based on a popular crime podcast set in 2024 and features interviews with the only known survivor. The game relies on public testimony, official crime scene photographs, and FBI materials to create its world. This connection to documented facts presents a scenario based on real circumstances. The narrative puts a person before the same test that the only victim managed to overcome within the framework of a self-contained story.
It is necessary to explore the environment to uncover the secrets buried in the kidnapper’s dungeon. Success depends on careful planning and the quiet execution of an escape attempt. The entire single-player gameplay takes an average of 1 hour to complete. During this time, the constant presence of the antagonist on the floor above creates continuous tension, because he reacts to any noise in the room below.
