SUFFOCATE is the story of a once happy Taiwanese Lin family whose lives turn into a nightmare after an encounter with a mysterious cult. Set in modern-day Taiwan, the series plunges participants into psychological disintegration, greed, and distorted faith. The story is told from the perspective of several characters, allowing you to look at the unfolding tragedy from different points of view. The main setting is the family’s luxurious mansion, the architectural style of which recreates the villas of celebrities of the 1980s, located on Yangmingshan Mountain.
To uncover dark secrets, you will have to explore not only the family home, but also the mysterious Lian Hua Temple. Moving through locations involves mortal danger posed by vengeful spirits that seem frighteningly familiar. SUFFOCATE’s gameplay requires you to constantly hide, solve puzzles, and use elements of parkour to avoid collisions with hostile supernatural forces. The project draws inspiration from real-life events in Taiwanese history, including the Shellless Snail movement and the high-profile murder case of Liu Pan-yu, giving it added depth.
At the center of this first-person horror story are complex family relationships destroyed by outside interference. Exploring the environment, the characters gradually approach the shocking truth about the reasons for their misfortune. In the process of passing they will have to face cruel scenes, rituals of a mysterious cult and manifestations of human greed. Each discovery in this story forces you to plunge deeper into an atmosphere of fear and despair, where the only goal is survival and uncovering the truth.
