Game Description
Tornado: Research and Rescue puts the player in the role of a storm chaser set in the 1990s. The main task is to find, track and chase tornadoes in an open world created based on real terrain. Gamers use equipment from the era, including Doppler radar on their car and placeable scientific probes to measure the strength of the elements. The key mechanics are to record events on a hand-held VHS camera with an optional filter that recreates the image characteristic of this technology. These tasks must be completed while moving through locations and avoiding the dangers that hurricanes bring with them.
The gameplay in Tornado: Research and Rescue is based on a system of procedural generation of weather conditions and locations. This means that the tornadoes, cities, and destruction patterns change in each session, creating unique pursuit scenarios. The main goal of this project is to get close to the vortex, install probes to collect scientific information and take photographs of research value. This game also puts the responsibility of warning the locals of an impending threat, adding a rescue mission element to the simulator.
Successfully collected scientific information can be sold for in-game currency. The proceeds make it possible to improve equipment through a series of upgrades. The truck can be upgraded to improve its performance, increase the range and accuracy of the radar, and improve the durability of the probes and their ability to collect data. This development system allows you to hunt more powerful weather phenomena over time as your equipment improves. Transport parts can also be replaced and customized.
