Game Description
Varmint is an atmospheric anthology platformer set in a harsh world of mechanical horror. Here, organic creatures are relegated to the lowest rung of the food chain, and power belongs to giant metal deities. Players take on the role of fragile pests forced to fight for existence in this depressing setting. The narrative is told without a single word, revealing the tragedy of this world through destroyed locations and silent scenes. Every corner is imbued with a feeling of hostility, as if the environment itself is watching every wrong step of the protagonist.
Unique world protagonists:
The first pest is the personification of speed and constant movement, rewarding quick reactions. The second character is the embodiment of a balanced approach, focused on measured and systematic progress. The third hero is the slowest, but his special adaptations open up ways to solve problems that are inaccessible to others.
The core of Varmint’s gameplay is precision acrobatics, requiring sharp reflexes and memorization of patterns. All enemy attacks and dangers in the levels are clearly marked, which eliminates the element of chance and makes the difficulty fair to the gamer. The mechanics don’t penalize mistakes, offering instant respawns at nearby checkpoints so you can get back into the action without delay. The controls are highly responsive, and the seemingly simple movement mechanics open up significant scope for demonstrating skill. Each of the three acts culminates in massive boss battles that create intense tests of reflexes and tactical thinking.
