The project belongs to the RPG genre. West of Loathing takes place in an alternate Wild West. Locals use meat instead of dollars. Moreover, they extract it in the mines or conquer it, since all the cows made a deal with the devil and became dangerous. The role of the indigenous population is played by goblins, and the colonists themselves always wander around drunk. The main character leaves his parents' farm and goes on a journey to become an adventurer.
Before starting the game, you need to choose one of 3 classes: cow puncher, beanslinger and snake oiler. These are analogies of a warrior, a magician, a shooter. The character has combat and peaceful skills. Skills in lockpicking, repair and eloquence allow you to gain advantages and even sometimes complete quests in other ways. The combat here is turn-based, and a lot of attention is paid to tactics in combat. First, the protagonist moves with his allies or all enemy fighters, and then the opposite side. You can spend replenished points on using skills.
The adventurer moves through the open world on a global map. While traveling between points of interest, he may encounter a random event. You are allowed to skip such events if you wish. In cities, the character communicates with NPCs. Sometimes its characteristics influence the further development of the conversation. All the dialogue here is comic and absurd. Periodically, the gameplay is diluted with puzzles. You can customize your protégé with 50 types of hats.
