ZAKO NO AHIRU is a 2D platformer of increased difficulty, the main goal of which is to conquer an inaccessible peak to the accompaniment of caustic comments. Every action is tirelessly watched by a girl named Sugaki Mary, who lives next door. She’s ready to make a caustic remark or an inappropriate joke at any time, using an arsenal of more than 800 fully voiced lines. The reward for your patience and skill will be one of 7 endings, each of which represents a unique surreal situation, reminiscent of a dream. You can choose the order in which they open.

The central element of ZAKO NO AHIRU’s gameplay is controlling a small duck as it climbs a mountain. Navigating cartoonish-looking but treacherous obstacles like giant fruits and trampolines requires sharp skills and extreme concentration. Any mistake can lead to a fall and the need to start climbing from earlier sections, which will inevitably cause a new portion of ridicule from Mary. The project challenges not only reflexes, but also the psychological stability of the gamer, creating a tense atmosphere.

Despite its apparent simplicity, the mechanics of movement have significant depth. To jump, the duck uses a stream of water, using up a limited resource. It becomes possible to make up to 5 jumps in a row, which opens up scope for searching for short routes and high-speed passage. For those who are completely desperate, there is a special help button, but using it will negate all personal achievements. Thus, success directly depends on the ability to calculate one’s strengths and maintain composure.
